CARE - Chronic
By
correcting the cause of a health problem rather than covering up the
symptoms with medication, seemingly "chronic" conditions may
not be chronic at all.
Chiropractic
care is a profession built on getting results where other approaches
have failed.
One
textbook definition of "chronic" is any condition or pain
that persist over three months past the time that it would be reasonable
to expect a resolution of the problem. It is estimated that there is
someone living with chronic pain in one out of every five U.S. households.
One of the main reasons this number is so high is the frequency with
which drugs are used to treat pain and other conditions in our society.
Drugs
allow people to have a decreased perception of their pain and symptoms
as long as the effect of the drug lasts. When people take drugs for
weeks or months at a time the perception of the problem is relieved
but nothing is actually done to remove the problem itself. Unfortunately
the longer the problem exists, the more likely it is to become chronic,
and it will be harder to treat the problem with conservative means.
Because medications are so widely used to mask symptoms of a problem,
the increased probability of untreated problems becoming chronic are
exponential. The good news is that "chronic", as previously
defined, does not mean permanent.
Your body has the ability to change and adapt for the better in most
cases, regardless of how severe or long standing a condition may be.
As you probably know the cells in your body are constantly changing
and being replaced by new cells. Since this is the case, it should make
sense to you that painful tissues can heal overtime with the right approach.
Often times, the chiropractic approach is exactly the right approach
for seemingly "chronic" conditions.
Since
chiropractic seeks to find the cause of your problems and overcome them
with natural means, your body can undergo the changes necessary to allow
real healing to take place. Remember that when a doctor tells you that
you have a chronic problem, such problems are often cured by chiropractic
care. Chiropractic will get the results you want by allowing your body's
nervous system to function and direct the body's health in the right
direction.
